Frequently Asked Questions

  • CISD Choice is available for students entering grades 9–12. Students must complete the application process and program orientation. 

    Before acceptance into the program, Canyon ISD will review residency, academic records, assessment data, attendance history, and overall student readiness for successful independent learning.

    Students transitioning from homeschool may be asked to complete grade-level diagnostic testing.

  • Yes. CISD Choice is a public school option offered at no cost to eligible Texas families.

  • To ensure a sucessful online learning experience, students participating in the CISD Choice program will need access to a personal device and reliable internet connection. Canyon ISD recommends that students use their own device for online coursework and have a dedicated learning enviroment that supports focus, engagement, and success.

  • Attendance is based on:

    • Daily login activity
    • Coursework participation
    • Assignment completion

     

    Coursework is delivered online and completed asynchronously, giving students flexibility in their daily schedules. Students are expected to actively participate in coursework and maintain academic progress.

  • Yes. CISD Choice follows the Canyon ISD academic calendar. Because coursework is self-paced, students may continue working during scheduled Canyon ISD breaks if they choose.

  • At this time, students accepted into CISD Choice are not eligible to participate in extracurricular activities, including athletics, fine arts, and UIL programs. Canyon ISD will communicate any future updates if participation opportunities become available.

  • Yes. Students enrolled in Canyon ISD must complete all required state assessments under Texas law.

  • Yes. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available through Texas Tech K-12.
    Please note that any AP course fees are the responsibility of the student or family.

  • Canyon ISD students may be eligible for the Badger Bound Scholarship through Amarillo College. This partnership provides qualifying CISD graduates with up to 45 tuition-free college credit hours, including tuition, fees, books and course materials.

    Students who complete 15 or more dual credit hours through Amarillo College while in high school qualify for the scholarship.

  • Applications for the 2026–2027 school year must be submitted by September 1, 2026.
