February is Career & Technical Education (CTE) Month, a time to highlight the hands-on learning that prepares students for success beyond the classroom. At the heart of Canyon ISD, our CTE programs are shaping futures, and thanks to generous community support, our Construction Technology students are gaining even more real-world experience.
This month, Christy Blake, of Paul Blake Roofing and Construction, provided an incredible donation to our construction students—equipping them with tool belts, tool bags, and a full set of essential tools to support their learning. Under the guidance of Construction Technology teacher Josh Nelson, students are putting these tools to work, gaining valuable skills that will serve them well in the construction industry and beyond.
This generous support continues the legacy of Paul Blake, a longtime business owner and dedicated member of the Canyon community. Paul graduated Canyon High in 1970 and served on the Canyon ISD Board of Trustees from 2022 until his passing in July 2023. In his honor, the Paul Blake Legacy Foundation was established to assist students pursuing careers in the trades.
In its inaugural year, the foundation awarded $1,000 scholarships to Canyon ISD students entering fields such as welding, plumbing, and agriculture. These scholarships help cover expenses for training, books, equipment, and tools, further empowering students to succeed in their chosen professions.
These students are not just building structures—they’re building confidence, problem-solving abilities, and a strong foundation for their futures. CTE programs in Canyon ISD provide real-world training and industry connections that help students explore career pathways, shaping bright futures for the next generation.
The generosity of our community partners makes a lasting impact on student learning, and we are grateful to the Blakes for their unwavering support in helping students construct a successful future—empowering lifelong success.
