CISD Superintendent's March Update

Canyon ISD: March Update

One year ago this month, Canyon ISD launched our Strategic Plan, a roadmap created with input from parents, educators, students, and community members to guide Canyon ISD over the next three to five years. This plan keeps our focus on what matters most - maximizing student opportunities, strengthening academic programs, supporting staff, and preparing for the future.

One of the key priorities of our Strategic Plan is career readiness and real-world learning. CISD’s Trade Days and Competitive Edge Week last month gave students hands-on experiences to explore careers, develop leadership skills, and connect with industry professionals. 180 community members and 50 local businesses and industries donated their time to mentor students, conduct mock interviews, and share their expertise. Their involvement makes a lasting impact, and we are incredibly grateful for their support.

Meanwhile, Canyon ISD students continue to achieve at the highest levels. The latest Lone Star Cup standings from UIL were released this month, and all three of our high schools are ranked in the top 10 in Texas - a remarkable accomplishment! Randall High has won the Lone Star Cup for the last two years and they currently lead the state in 1st place, Canyon High is 6th, and West Plains High is 8th.

For those unfamiliar, the Lone Star Cup recognizes excellence in academics, fine arts, and athletics, awarding points based on overall success in UIL competitions. These rankings reflect the dedication of our students, teachers, and coaches across multiple areas, and we are proud of their efforts. We will be anticipating future Lone Star Cup ranking announcements as there are still several UIL events this Spring.

In the coming weeks, CISD students are preparing for regional and state competitions in several areas. Canyon, Randall, and West Plains High School One-Act Plays are advancing to Bi-District Competition. We have students headed to State Competition in Visual Arts and Theatrical Design. Junior High and High School choirs and bands are competing in Spring UIL competitions. We recently celebrated Randall as the 4A State Champion Wrestling Team. Canyon and West Plains had several State Competitors in Wrestling as well.  West Plains and Randall Girls Soccer Teams are in the playoffs, while our Track, Tennis, Golf, Baseball and Softball programs are in their spring competition season. Their hard work and commitment continue to represent our district at the highest levels.

As we mark one year of progress in our Strategic Plan, the work continues. Next month, our Design Team of community members, staff, and students will gather once again to plan for the next year, keeping us focused on the priorities our community helped shape. CISD remains committed to expanding opportunities, empowering students, and growing with purpose.

To our parents, teachers, staff, volunteers, and local businesses - thank you for your continued support. Together, we are empowering lifelong success.
