Superintendent's Monthly Update

September 24, 2025

CISD Family,

The school year is moving forward with focus and purpose. With more than 11,500 students enrolled, our campuses are full of energy and learning. I am grateful for the dedication of our staff and the support of our families as we strive to empower lifelong success.

Safety Week – This month, students and staff participated in districtwide drills as part of Safety Week. These exercises - secure, hold, shelter, evacuation, and lockdown - are important practices in preparing for emergencies. I appreciate the calm leadership of our staff and the attentiveness of our students. Safety will always remain a top priority in Canyon ISD.

Observance of September 11th – Patriot Day is a National Observance of September 11, 2001. Our elementary schools celebrated this observance by honoring local first responders. Many of our music teachers held programs for the community at their campus, with students performing patriotic songs.  These experiences strengthen community connections.

Regional Industry & Education Summit – On October 3rd, Canyon ISD will co-host the Regional Industry & Education Summit with Region 16, Amarillo College, WTAMU, Amarillo ISD and surrounding panhandle districts. This gathering brings together teachers in agriculture, construction trades, business, culinary, education, criminal justice, health science, cosmetology, floral, and engineering - who will meet with employers to align classroom learning with local workforce needs. It is an important step in helping our students prepare for their next steps into career pathways.

For more information about this event, please visit with Tiffany Hooker, Coordinator of Career & Technology Education.

Celebrating Traditions Across Canyon ISD – Homecoming is one of the best times of the year in CISD. Our Randall, West Plains, and Canyon High feeder patterns celebrate with events all week long including pep rallies, parades, community gatherings, and of course, football. These traditions bring out the heart of our district. Thank you to our families, alumni, and community for showing up in such a big way. Your support helped make this season one of the best yet, with more alumni returning than ever before.

Parent Consent as Required by New State Law – Per new state law, Senate Bill 12, certain consents are required to be determined by parents.  Families, please remember to log in to Skyward to complete the new annual parent consent as required by the State of Texas. Thank you for taking care of this important step. We are glad to talk with you about any questions or concerns. Please contact your school office.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, we are building on our success and working toward an even brighter future for every student in Canyon ISD.

Dr. Darryl Flusche
