Canyon ISD Earns “Superior” A-Rating in Texas FIRST Financial Accountability System
For the 2024–2025 year, Canyon ISD has earned a “Superior” A-rating under the School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) - the highest possible rating in the state’s financial accountability system.
This marks the 26th consecutive year Canyon ISD has received the state’s top financial rating, reflecting more than two decades of consistent fiscal excellence.
The FIRST system, administered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), evaluates how school districts manage, report, and safeguard public funds. Districts are assessed each year across multiple financial indicators, including fund balance, liquidity, debt management, internal controls, and the clarity and accuracy of financial reporting.
Why this matters
Canyon ISD manages taxpayer dollars responsibly and transparently.
The district’s strong financial standing gives confidence to parents, employees, and the community.
Fiscal responsibility allows Canyon ISD to prioritize resources that directly support student success.
CISD has consistently maintained this “Superior” rating, reflecting the district’s ongoing commitment to both academic excellence and sound financial stewardship.
About FIRST
The Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) is required under Texas law. Each district’s audited financial data is submitted to TEA, scored across multiple indicators, and assigned one of four possible ratings:
A – Superior Achievement

B – Above Standard Achievement

C – Meets Standard Achievement

F – Substandard Achievement

For more information about CISD’s financial reports, visit the district’s Finance page or view the Annual Financial Accountability Management Report.
